Temporo Mandibular Joint (TMJ) disorder can mimic the symptoms of many other musculoskeletal problems. Dysfunction of the TMJ can typically create symptoms such as neck pain, back pain, headaches, migraines, clicking jaw & teeth grinding - these being the most common problems.

There are a number of factors that make the TMJ unique in the body, as it has two joints in one. The two joints one in front of each ear, are connected by the jawbone. One joint may influence the function of the other joint and they can differ from side to side in both size, shape & function.

Imbalances in the TMJ can cause distortions in the cranial, spinal & pelvis structures, resulting in irregular muscular tension throughout the whole body. By affecting the regulation of the pituitary gland, the hormonal system can also be compromised, as too can the neurological system through pressure on the cranial nerves.

Clients are often pleasantly surprised by changes from the subtle Bowen moves. With this release of pressure the joint is allowed optimal space for healing to occur. In many cases TMJ disorder can be effectively treated using the soft tissue Bowen techniques either in isolation or in conjunction with other supportive modalities.

It is a beneficial treatment for re-alignment after Dental visits.
