My love of Bowen comes from my own healing journey from having restricting pain and fatigue. I used Bowen Therapy in combination with a wellness plan to heal. I am amazed at how Bowen releases muscle stress in the connective soft tissue (Fascia). Whilst it also detoxifies through the lymphatics and calms the nervous systems. Through Bowen my body was able to release old patterns and heal, which ignited my passion for sharing the healing benefits of Bowen Therapy.

The Important Role of Fascia
Fascia is a continuous single organ of dense fibrous tissue made up of wet collagen proteins. It is now seen as the largest organ within the body playing many vital roles. Fascia envelopes every muscle, nerve, artery, bone & vein, plus internal organs and joints, therefore supporting posture structure and maintenance.
Fascia provides a sliding and gliding environment for muscles, it suspends organs and bones in their proper place and provides support for nerves & blood vessels as they pass through and between muscles. If you took everything else away in the body you would see a 3D web like sculpture that holds our cells together. Being tensile it has the ability to tolerate strong force and act as a shock absorber. Fascia has three layers. Superficial, mostly associated with the skin, Deep – associated to muscles, nerves, bones & blood vessels, Visceral – mostly associated with organs. When healthy it is of egg-white consistency, when inflamed it shrinks and becomes dehydrated. It is slow to heal because of poor blood supply and is a strong focus of pain due to its high volume of nerve endings.
Fascia has been found to be a major organ of Proprioception (Inner Vision – how we sense the body). Chemicals which create emotional responses travel through the Fascia which holds our consciousness, beliefs & fears. When we look at Fascia we can see an alive, tangible representation of the principle of Oneness within our very own bodies. Build-up of emotions and tension, misalignments, & injury cause restricted movement, pain and inflammation.
Creating hydration of the Fascia throughout the body, Bowen therapy can assist to allow this Oneness principle functioning. Through the facilitation of gentle transverse stretch & release Bowen moves over specific muscle & tendon origins and insertions, nutrients and oxygen can be efficiently delivered to the tissue, waste products removed, restricting emotions can begin to release, nerve impulses are transmitted more effectively to organs and restricted fibres are gently released to their natural alignment.
We then find that calmness, increased range of movement, strength, flexibility and toning is created. An allowing of a change in old patterns is experienced, igniting the body’s own ability to heal itself, creating more Balance and Harmony.
History of Bowen
Tom Bowen (1916 - 1982) developed the original technique in Geelong, Australia. In a 1975 government report he was found to be treating some 13,000 people a year and achieving over 80% resolution of all presenting problems. Most clients experienced long term or permanent resolution after just a few visits. He was especially known for his dedication to treating the young and disabled.
